Take another look at the Alternative Exhibition Format slideshow (on the class site). Think about which artist's work was the most interesting to you in terms of format. Make a post and talk about what the artist does with format, and why you think it is interesting, and if you think you might be considering using an alternative exhibit format write about that too.
My favorite artists were Sarah Sze and Kara Walker because their works are physically part of the exhibit. Kara Walker's silhouettes are physically attached to the wall as though they are part of the wall paper. Seeing them in person is amazing because of their life size quality. It almost looks like holes in the wall that some one ran through leaving their imprint (like in the cartoons). I remember having to get up very close to the wall to make sure it was solid and not a tunnel or something.
The photograph of Sarah Sze's work Hidden Relief simply took my breath away. I couldn't figure out what form of media it even was until I played around on her website. Each of her works of art are just so intricate and like nothing I've ever seen before. Just Now Dangled Still, at the Liverpool Bienial in Liverpool, England, is placed against the side of a building.
I am definitely considering using an alternative exhibit format. :-)
