Twyla Tharp

I think that a major problem for myself and my classmates will be using up so much creative energy that we collapse and are exhausted way to soon. A lot of people, including myself, came in to this class with a grand big idea of what they wanted to do. All of these ideas seemed to have shut everyone's minds. "A good idea is one that turns you on rather than shuts you off," says Tharp. These big ideas were not good ideas. When I realized that my big idea was getting me nowhere, I started over from the beginning. What was my main goal of this final piece? I want to be able to express myself through body art. I want to define myself, or someone else, using symbols. With this little idea, I have been able to develop other little ideas. I am using all of these little ideas to create my one big idea for my final piece.
Her idea of scratching will definitely help me remain inspired throughout the term. Constantly being able to move and see new things, "digging through everything to find something," will and has helped me to come up with what I want to do.

How Artist Develop Their Studios

All of these artists are in a comfortable space for their work. Calder's studio seems chaotic and everywhere; his artwork is hanging chaotically yet organized and balanced. Pollack's studio seems comfy and spread out everywhere while his artwork consists of huge paintings. Kahlo's location of painting is according to her life style while her artwork is also about herself and her life.
I think I relate the most with Hamlett Dobbins and Jamison Broussaeu because their studios are filled with different things to be inspired by. Whether it be old works of art or simply many colors. I feel like I work the best when I have many different ideas surrounding me instead of something without inspiration.
I think artists develop their spaces and methods by creating the most inspirational yet practical set up they can. This does not always happen right away, but over time artists discover how they feel most comfortable working. Being an artist takes a lot of dedication.
